Yes. Acid reflux occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter between the stomach and the esophagus relaxes when it shouldn't, allowing stomach acid to flow up into the esophagus. When acid reflux occurs frequently, it is called acid reflux disease or GERD (short for gastroesophageal reflux disease). One of the most common symptoms of acid reflux disease is frequent heartburn.

Are there lifestyle tips that can help me manage my acid reflux symptoms?
Yesand some are quite simple. You could try raising the head of your bed 4 to 6 inches, eating smaller meals, losing excess weight and quitting smoking. Some acid reflux sufferers also find it helps to eat at least 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. And don't forget to stay away from those foods that trigger your acid reflux symptoms. A few common triggers are citrus, caffeine, alcohol, chocolate, and tomato products.
